I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I have been here for 30 years. I cannot imagine living in Turkey all the time. They live differently over there, they have a different social life – a totally different way of living.

Do you feel more Turkish or German then?

It is like sitting on two chairs. I mean… Over here I feel 90 per cent included. In Turkey I feel 50 per cent included. But I cannot vote here, nor there. Therefore it is a difficult question. When I am here then I feel that I am accepted. But still, I don’t know maybe it is something that is written on my forehead or it is the clothing or the colour of my hair… If I only had blond hair, maybe I would feel completely German. But I get the same feeling in Turkey – as if something is written on my forehead, that I am not from around there and people notice it right away.
