I have always liked Germany. I first started to watch German TV in former Czechoslovakia. I loved the language and I still do.
I totally fell in love with Germany, mostly Berlin and the eastern part of it, in 2004 after my Erasmus in Potsdam. The nature, cities, history, clubs, atmosphere, students and guys… They were so good looking: tall, handsome and well dressed compared to our guys in Slovakia. But there was this one thing: they gave you the feeling like they are not interested in women. They did not flirt, talk or ask a woman out. A strange thing… Just like in the song from Wir Sind Helden “Aurelie”.
I am still wondering how they can reproduce and how come you see couples on the streets. Until now I have not solved this mystery: how do the German men find women? They only talk to you in a bar when they are wasted… Or when they need you to get out of their way.
When they are not drunk, they are totally polite, but you will not be noticed as a woman. I have often tried to open a door while holding a huge box in hands and a German guy standing next to the door has never helped me. It is kind of funny. German women don’t ask for help even if they need it. But men would love to help. Sometimes I still have to ask my boyfriend for help because he just doesn’t get it. By the way, I met him where all sober people over 25 are meeting now – via internet, because face to face he would never talk to me.
