I think it’s very important that we strengthen mutual understanding in our society and that we really work together to make things better!

The problem we’re facing right now is fundamentalism. In my opinion its roots are also socioeconomic. It has a lot to do with failed opportunities to foster integration and give people a real perspective to thrive in our society.

I think it’s not enough to say that “we’re sorry that these things happen” and “it’s not about us”. It’s definitely about all of us! We all have to work on making things better. I think it’s so important that we never stop trying to understand each other.

I don’t think it’s about blaming anyone. It’s about finding the right solution together. Everybody has to get together around one table and see how we could solve this problem: I’m talking about government, NGO’s and all religious communities and private initiatives together.

We particularly have to help the young people, who get involved in these fundamental movements, to get them out of there and provide them alternatives. Alternatives that give them perspective and stability. And we have to do it together, otherwise it won’t work.

These young people very often don’t know what to do with their lives and feel lost. And then someone approaches them saying something like: “Hey! Come to us, we value you, you are important to us and we would to everything for you, if you’d do everything for us.“ Who wouldn’t want that? If they’d have something else to feel part of that gives them hope and a stable future, then that would be one step towards a better future.
