What words do you know to describe someone who is not a German?

Often in German we use “Ausländer” (foreigner – ed.) or just say “People with migration background”. I think the last word is problematic because everyone nowadays has a migration background.

I don’t think that the borders are important. If I meet a person on the streets, I don’t think of the nationality…first the person, the topic of our conversation, but not the nationality.
