Here in Germany you have to register yourself in the city you are living in. After two years I thought: “OK, I’ll do it.”
I arrived in the city hall and announced to the official there that I would like to register myself after two years. He was speechless… totally bewildered. Then he told me: “Do you know you have to do it after seven days the latest?”
For me it really wasn’t a big deal. I mean it doesn’t really matter if I am registered or not, but he was totally shocked. Eventually it worked out just fine: now I am registered. However, they did ask rather funny questions: why are you here and what’s your religion. As a French person, I still don’t feel like giving answers to such personal questions to the authorities.
whats your religion is a tricky questions:-) they dont care about the religion, they just want you to pay taxes if you are a member of the church
